I felt it crawling behind my back

like shivers, it may be

turned around with total lack

as if I was truly free

opened my eyes to see darkness all around

loud mumbling filled the place

a place that seemed endless

walking at a steady pace

found myself before what seemed

like an ominous, lost soul

wondering when they'll be seen 

and shown the way not to fall

as I reached out offering guidance

realizing it was too late

I still persisted in ignorance

they weren't to blame

struggling to stay out of darkness' grasp 

slowly they gave themselves to the dark

lost in the midst of the blackness

all I could do was watch as they sank

louder and louder the voices became

so clear I could hear every breathe they take

that breathe once let out

held the deepest aches

that heavy breathe

that sigh

its depth

is all that they couldn't take
