The Snake

It slithers around my skin,
Sending shivers up and down my body.
Slowly, it suffocates me
Until my vision goes black.

Envy mocks me through its eyes,
Whispering, "Know what you're asking for."
And with the knife away from my reach,
Hope begins to pull away from my heart.

My mouth curves a silent goodbye,
But the strength was just an illusion.
The next thing I knew I was just nothing.
Nothing but a vessel for Envy.

And when I close my eyes,
The snake's tongue slithering goes silent.
Water echoes inside my ears.
Teardrops fall to the ground.

When I open my eyes,
I thought that I was in Heaven.
It turns out that I was somewhere better:
In the warmth of Gaea's home.

There was my Guardian, my Mate.
And the light surrounds my friends and mentors,
Glowing with their offerings of happiness.
A smile grows softly on my face.

And even though the snake was still etched onto my skin,
I reach out for the light for it to burn off.

Wrote this about the jealousy I feel towards something and how my skin feels like a snake suffocating it. But, my boyfriend tells me to not be envious of others and be happy with what I have.
