From the Will of Man

Black, alone, emerges

From the will of man

Wretchedness and plight

Self-indulgence and lies

Fall off the tongue

As if saliva responding in decadence

To the temptation

To be better

To be more

To be in control of one's own destiny

In the way man tricks himself into believing

By his work

By his discipline

He can obtain reward for himself

Of earth and heaven

Such as redemption

Justification and salvation

As if nails pierced though man's own body

As if thorns etched into man's own skull

Or, as if man's own tongue tasted the vinegar

Birthed from the bitterness of sin

Wretchedness and plight

Self-indulgence, faithlessness, and lies

Black, alone, emerges

Man dies
