The Conifer

Just like a treasure chest

Hidden deep within of the dirty earth

Sometimes the deepest hurt

Is like rain on the conifer

When all it needs is fire to come alive

Waiting is the hardest test

When lightning rains down in the distance

Sparks flying in an instant

So close you can taste them

Just far enough off to never end the waiting

If I could just close my eyes

Dream in counter-clockwise

And turn back the hands of time

I'd forever lose my sight

Just to know my heart alive

And know the light of love again

Down by the riverbed

Stones so smooth like the silk of skin

Kissed by the water when

The banks can no longer hold within

The want of the sky to know earth again

Sky and dirt begin to blend

As lightning strikes and thunder claps

Walls separating life from love collapse

Turning the conifer to ash

Giving the dormant seed the will to sprout

Now, with my eyes closed

I'm praying hard, with the deepest hope

Knowing even if it's hard to cope

The worth in the seeds I've sewn

Will be worth the wait I've known

In the moment my dormant heart is born
