Back To The Sheep's Skin

It came quick like molasses from a tree

Her footsteps inching ever closer to me

And, I could feel invisible lines

Prison walls, if you’re so inclined to speak

In physical terms of what her nerves must have felt like

As she pressed her statue body into mine

We looked into each other’s granite eyes

And, knew it was possible to overcome

The barrier built to conceal our love in safety

But, safe love is a sure sign it’s not love at all

I could tell something strong was blowing in

The weather will always choose to change if it can

And, so will we

The table was set perfectly that morning

She said that was the reason she fell in love with me

And, I began to think why should I be perfect

I’m just another ant on this earth with dirt on my skin

Working so hard just to keep her happy

The pressure not to make a mistake made me unravel

Like a ball of wool with words for strings, she would ramble

And, I would tried to decipher anything I could

But, I couldn’t unweave her words back to the sheep's skin

Because it had nothing to do with her intentions for loving me

I could tell something strong was blowing in

The weather will always choose to change if it can

And, so will we

And, so will we
