Difficult Child

A difficult child's poem

Daddy come and catch a frog with me

Come and share my fun

Watch me hunt for lizards

Playing in the sun

Do you wonder why I pout some days

Stomp my feet and call you mean

I see your frustration

When I refuse to keep my room clean

Daddy let me tell you a story

Did you know dinosaurs are still alive

You listen with such enthusiasm

You help my imagination thrive

Happy to mad in 30 seconds flat

I don't know how I feel about everyone, including you

I look to you to show me how

But it's hard when you're angry too

Daddy I want to be like you

I want to act, talk, and fit inside your shoes

You are my hero, you help me to be strong

You are my teacher, to ride a bike or count by twos

I'm screaming and crying now

My fists swinging wild

I don't mean it when I say I hate you

Don't give up on your difficult child
