I Will Always Be With You

She set, back leaned heavily against the wall, with such amount of sorrow weighing on her shoulders as she stared out of the window and to the clear rays outside that the sun casted over the land. Her thoughts, that usually ran wild, were settled and blank and her eyes focused on nothing in particular, like an empty stare. There was nothing seeing, nothing there.

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes as the sadness hit her like a perfectly formed punch and her heart, that beat so beautifully and on key, now broke along with the tune of a broken melody. It was unbearable, painful and most unpleasant and she allowed her head to tilt to the side, half exhausted and half empty.

Katherine felt a soft touch to her skin. It was gentle and warm and wasn't there before as it caressed her cheek lovingly, unaware that she leaned in to the comfort of that action but a simple word slipped her mouth, lowly, before she could keep it from escaping, "Jonathan..."

"Ssh. I'm here." Someone answered.

She drew her brows together in confusion. The voice was so familiar. Yet so strange because it was one she had not heard in five years and even after so much time that had passed she still recognized who it belonged to. With tired eyes, they fluttered open slowly and her gaze fixing on the man in front of her.

"Jonathan...your here." She choked out.

His hand remained on her soft cheek as he smiled warmly and nodded. "I'm here."

Katherine's sapphire orbs grew glassy with unshed tears of both happiness and pain because seeing him was more than she could ever want but she also knew it was not possible for him to be there. "You can't...your not,"

Jonathan raised a finger to his lips with a 'shh' sound before using it to rub long fingers through her long, thick black hair. "I'm here now. That's all that matters."

Her hand moved to grip his as he played with her hair. "I miss you." She admitted sadly.

"I know. I miss you. Katherine, you have to let it go. You have to let me go. It'll kill you..." He replied with a low voice.

She shook her head. "I can't. I love you."

Jonathan's hand slipped from hers to grab onto her shoulder and pull her close to his chest. Her head resting in the crook of his neck and she could feel the warmth seeping through her body as he embraced her and, for the first time in a long time, she relaxed.

"Let it go." He repeated, eyes closed and tightened his hold.

To let it go, would to be to let you go. I don't think I can do that, were the words she spoke silently in her thoughts.

"Its okay, Kat." His eyes closed and a light started to appear, surrounding him quickly, like a veil of purity.

She could feel a difference in her emotions as they shifted, like the pain she felt earlier intensified and she started to shake. "No...." She whispered brokenly.

The light grew brighter, drawing out all her pained emotions and bringing them farther to the surface. Her grip tightened as it hit her full force but it wasn't pain being inflicted to her, no, it was her own that she held on to for years.

"Ssh. Its okay. Let it go....all of it." He continued to say with the same soft voice that he always had.

In the next instant, sobs filled the space between them, her sobs.

Jonathan rested his chin on her head as she lost all composure and cried for the first time since his death. Her cries continued until her beautiful voice was now deep with abuse. She sniffed and all her weight was pressed against him out of pure exhaustion. "That's it." He whispered.

He could still feel the light tremors as they  wracked her body harshly and he pulled her away enough to look into her eyes, her red, puffy eyes. He used his thumb to wipe away the lone tear that seemed glued to her cheek. Her expression was still pained but also calm.

"Katherine. I'm sorry." He said suddenly.

Her gaze focused on him. "What...sorry for what."

He shook his head and sighed. "I love you. You will find happiness again...I promise."

Once again he touched her face, eyes slipping shut, but in an instant it faded along with his presence and when she opened her eyes she was met with the window. The once sunny day turned to a blackened night but something was different. Her heart didn't seem quite as broken, instead she was smiling. "I love you to...."

Outside, Jonathan stood, hands in his pockets as he stared at her from afar.

"Goodbye, Katherine. I will always be with you."

Wings appeared in the form of a bright light, huge and white and he vanished with a smile on his face as well.
