Individuality

'The aggregate of qualities and characteristics that distinguish one person or thing from others; character: choices that were intended to express his individuality; monotonous towns lacking in individuality.

An individual or distinguishing feature.

The quality or state of being individual; singularity: She was so absorbed by the movement that she lost all sense of individuality.

A single, distinct entity.'

Ladies and gentlemen, there's your definition for the word of the day,'individuality.'

I'm not saying that this definition is complete bull shit, because it's not. What I wish to point out is that it's so..what's the word...overrated. You try, and you try, and you try to be unique, to be an individual, but at the end of the day someone WILL call out "You're copying somebody." Why? Because, in reality, you are.

Not only that, but the media has a HUGE involvement in it. Remember that Coke commercial where they had that song from Queen play? You know.."I want to break free!" Well, in that commercial, you hear the song, and you see everyone drinking coke. So basically, the message I'm getting is "If I want to be free, and different, I must drink coke!" Wow! What a simple solution to a problem that could last a lifetime! Huzzah!

No, no, wait. I have a better one. School groups. Social groups. "Leadership" groups. "Don't comform! Be an individual! Come join the group of leaders!"

C'mon. Bull.Fucking.Shit.

There's no room for it anymore. No one is original. They're bringing styles back from the 80s for fuck sakes. I don't know about anyone else, but I would sure love to leave that style period behind.

Music! The one thing in the world that I, without a doubt, truely love is even turning to complete and utter shit. Everything sounds the same, everyone acts the same.

"I've been doing it since I was 5." "I do it for the music." "I've always wanted to do this."

*Applauds* Nice show. Now THAT deserves an oscar!

Now tell me, how many times have you heard that? Not only from pop stars such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, but also from those people who call themselves a band, e.i. Simple Plan, Linkin Park, Blink 182, and so forth.

In order to find something new and exciting, the only place I know to look is over seas. Now over there, my friends, is where true individuality was and is born. I really shouldn't look to other, foreign, countries for music. But I do.

Ipseity is a fucking joke. No one is original anymore. Everyone rips off everyone else.

Hey, even *I* know I'm not an individual. My styles obviously comes from someone else. I may not know that someone, but it's someone else, nonetheless.

-shrugs-

It's just..how I feel.
