Window in the Dark

Ugonna Wachuku

I see visions of blue and
wonders across the earth.

I view breath-taking
landscapes far away
from home.

I view your love
and tears through
this starring window
in the dark.

Through this empty
window, I view dark,
grey clouds of the
tender night.

Seducing dawn will
soon meet me with
beauty and refreshing
dews of the new morning.

Yet, all alone, I sit
here wandering through
this silent window in
the dark.

I am here, waiting for
your new, beautiful
morning. And it is
through this window
in the dark that I
must see the first,
embracing sun rays.

I wonder.
I ponder.

I wonder what this
new morning will be
for you and for me
through this hopeful
window in the dark
because this day,
I see visions of blue
and wonders of glory
across our

enchanting
ebbing

earthly

home!

Ugonna, to me this is a stunning description of a soul entering rebirth.  I read it several times then closed my eyes and fell into rememberance of the days of when I once sat looking through my own empty windows at dark clouds, awaiting for His first light to bring me the deepest joy I would ever or could ever know.  Today I hold nothing but an attitude of gratitude for the strenght of Him who I found in me to help me endure.  For today, I see each breath as a wonderous miracle as His outpouring of love to me and, each day an opportunity to glorify life in His name.  Thank you for writing this piece and offering it as a moment where I could sit and reflect. Thank you also for the very complimentary critique which you gave to my poem YIELDING MOUNTAINS.  You are very kind.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving some soulprints.  Your warm words are steaming the windows of the soul with authentic fragrance of friendship and brotherhood and peace.  Read some of your poems.  Window In The Dark is a marvelous piece of poetic art.  Liked this most:  "I am here, waiting for your new, beautiful morning. And it is through this window in the dark that I must see the first, embracing sun rays."  Thanks for sharing. Friendship and salam..

Ugonna,  This is a beautiful, thoughtful poem.  Especially meaningful in these days after the terrible tragedy in New York.  We can still look forward to new days of hope. As always, your work is thought-provoking and insightful.  Best regards, Helen

Like looking through the window into empty space, our lives sometimes seem bleak but God ignites flames of hope in our souls:  seducing dawn will soon meet me with beauty and refreshing dews of the new morning.  Thank you for sharing.

I'm getting tired of using the word "spectacular", but I keep reading poems that can only be described that way, an example being this one. A Japanese teacher of Haiku once described great poetry as "savory". I suppose that would be a better word. When I read your poetry, I do savor it, relish it. I am captivated by all the magnificence you can pack into a few simple words. If brevity is the soul of wit, your simplicity is the soul of eloquence. YOU are the soul of eloquence . . .

Ugonna, your poetry has a twist to what I wrote...It reveals a more positive outlook...hope...as compared to mine...I've taken the liberty of placing it in here now.

                        At the Window

                  I feel with assiduous touch

                  Pale garnished crystal of frost

                  Lest they melt into oblivion

                      I stare voraciously

              At their feathery-pointed sparkles

                    So modest, secretly poised

                        yet unseen

On my lashes the same sparkle appears

                  languishingly and unseen

No assiduous touch, for no-one sees the sparkles

                        I wait....

My lashes heavy with fixed melt

              Lower lightly and enduringly

Then, a golden ray shone brilliantly

              On the feathers of frost

              And awakened my lazy lashes

              To fix in dutiful position:

              Waiting for night to fall
