Office Max.. Maxing Out Endangered Forests

We need a new treaty

for the trees

so that no Office Max

or any other

can our forests

out max

*******

In June, Bill Holland of Forest Ethics was barred from

a Shaker Heights Ohio stockholders' meeting of Office Max,

which unlike Staples is still using unrecycled paper

.. The best are nontree papers such as cotton which lasts

over 400 years as opposed to 60 to 100 for tree paper.

Please contact Office Max to tell them you shop

environment only.

Stop Office Max from Destroying Our Forests!

Please join us June 5th, 9am, Office Max Headquarters

for a demonstration at the Office Max Annual Shareholder meeting

3605 Warrensville Center Rd., Shaker Heights, OH

[Please circulate widely in Ohio]

Everyday the world’s forests are being destroyed to make paper. From the

boreal forests in Canada and the forests of the Southeastern United States

to the rainforests of the Amazon and Indonesia, logging companies are

turning pristine endangered forests into disposable paper products. In fact,

the paper industry is the single largest industrial wood consumer in the

world.

Cleveland’s Office Max leads the way in destroying the world’s endangered

forests. Although industry leaders such as Staples and Kinko’s have agreed

to phase out endangered forests products and increase the recycled content

of their paper, Office Max has failed to initiate any environmental

policies. As their shareholders gather June 5th in Shaker Heights, join the

Paper Campaign to demand Office Max meet or beat Staples’ policy announced

last fall after a 2 year grassroots effort.

The Paper Campaign demands Office Max do the following:

*Immediately phase out paper products originating from Endangered

Forests, including the world's last remaining ancient forests, National

Forests and other US public lands, Boreal forests and forests of the

Southern U.S.

*Achieve an average of at least 30% post-consumer recycled content for

all their paper sold, and work towards 50% post-consumer average in the

near future.

*Make available 100% post-consumer recycled paper and paper that is made

from agricultural fiber in all stores and other points of sale.

*Educate all employees, customers, and suppliers on the benefits of

recycled paper, recycling, and the availability of alternative fibers.

*Work with suppliers to end destructive forest practices,

including the conversion of natural forests to single species

plantations and the use of genetically engineered organisms.

It’s time to demand change from Office Max. Tell them to get out of

endangered forests and go recycled!

Contact Bill Holland with ForestEthics if you can help with plans for the

Office Max shareholder meeting:
