Steinbeck And Frogs

John Steinbeck said of Ed Ricketts whose personality

drew John Cage, Henry Miller, and others

that Rickets had a mind without horizon

and sympathy without warp.

But the frogs and snakes

kidnapped from tidal pools

do not agree.

Sooner or later, when one spends a lifetime without

apology .. in harming countless beings.. God stops the

action.

Rickets died as a cowcatcher on a train.. grabbed his

truck on the tracks.

The vedas say that death by the elements, animals or

plants is inauspicious.

This includes lightning bolts, drowning, trees falling,

tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, bulls goring rodeomen,

elephants trampling cruel trainers.
