IN MEMORY OF ADMIRAL GENE CARROLL
I was very saddened this morning to read of Admiral Gene Carroll's passing. He was a wonderful human and a spectacular and tireless worker for peace and justice.
Gene Carroll, Vice President of the Center for Defense Information, became a friend of mine at our 1995 VFP convention in San Francisco. He was the keynote speaker for our Sunday demonstration at Lawrence Livermore Lab. You might recall how sunny and warm that day was and Gene, being a "hair-impaired" gentleman was without a hat. So I "loaned" him my VFP ball cap which he laughingly continued to wear as he got into his car to depart. For years afterwards he would tease me about returning my cap, while requesting to "keep it for just a while longer to wear at an important upcoming demonstration or meeting."
Gene Carroll will be missed by activists at many venues for peace and justice, but he will be especially and warmly remembered by peaceful veterans around the world.
