ROADKILL
living in a different place
have seen new kinds of animals
become roadkill
beavers, skunks, snakes,
and toads have joined
the birds and squirrels and cats
cars cause more roadkill
than do the trains
whether it's dry
or whether it rains
bug splattered windshields
...leaves splattered with dust
from night driving on byways
paved with dirt colored like rust
