Sonnet On The Upper Room; April 13, 2017

When Christ departed from that upper room,

He was inviting danger to His doom---

or so, to the eleven, it had seemed

that night.  But none of them, then, could have dreamed

the coming fullness of His Victory

over sin's latent, deadly perfidy.

With Him, they had shared the Passover meal,

that He had used (going forward) to seal

His new, final, eternal Covenant---

to every people spiritually relevant.

Upon Christ's cross, God will wipe all the tears---

since Eve's---away, and comfort all our fears

(in all their variations) of our death

with Gospel inspirations like new breath.

Author's Notes/Comments:

The first few lines woke me from sleep this morning, Holy Thursday.

Line 12:  I believe that Eve, in Eden, was the first to weep for their mutual sin of violating Christ's prohibition forbidding access to the Tree of Knowledge; i believe this despite John Milton's assertions.
