MY DAILY POEM, JAN 15, 2004

An eye for an eye, the first law

to control men from runnng wild.

The Chinese fancifully adopt it

to their medical system too.

An eye for an eye against nature

to seek any cure for body ailments.

Suffer from bad heart; savour a

bowl of pig's heart simmered with herbs.

Bed wetting; try a pig's bladder

steamcooked with ginseng. Bad memories?

Take pig's or monkey's brain.

Male impotency? Take a tiger's penis

mixed with herbs, ginseng being the very best.

Bad stomach? Take pig's stomach

stuffed with a young chicken and herbs.

Too timid? Take a tiger's gall,

or a snake's to strenghten yours.

Bad eyesights? Take eagles' eyeballs?

A system that will leave us

very lonely in the animal world!
