Fairytale Truths

I know you can’t resist the flavor

of a Red Delicious apple;

why don’t you try mine-

bittersweet temptation always tastes better.

Only this one is pungent to the core,

and its seeds will do more than choke you

into blasphemous slumber.

Blame your miseries on me;

I’m not completely innocent of the accusation.

Don’t convict me before you have heard

my last cry of renouncement.

Do not defy me in my finest hour,

but leave me drowning in the shallow pool of pity

I’ve dug with my bare hands.

I hope you prick your finger on a spindle,

and embrace the truth with your bleeding palms.

I won’t be slaying any dragons

to wind my way to your deathbed,

nor will I be around to wake you with true love’s kiss.

Life really is like a box of chocolates,

You always pick the wrong piece of candy.

Apparently, I’m not any better at choosing

the right, wrong piece.
