I was walking to the car, heading out

When I fell, slipped on the ice

And skinned my leg.

I wish you could have been there to see it,

Onto blank brick walls,

Dotting the city with a sneer

Even as the final bomb goes off.

I'm broken but smiling

As I wait for you to grace me in person,

Breathless in anticipation of your whip crack.

God, what a mess my blood makes.

The last thing I see before I sleep

Is a footprint you left behind,

Your signature at the end of the love letter

You never wrote.
