The Fair Tragedy

After seeing that smoke quickly fill the air,

And the noise that seemed a little too loud.

We were just walking back

He screams sounded like the sirens,

On their way downtown.

And everyone just walking by

Trying to ignore her screams

But they couldn’t block her desperate cries

They had lives, they said,

And meetings, and lunches,

And a phone call that they couldn’t make.

Four girls that just had to stand there

Their hearts racing, their minds tracing

What had just happened?

Standing next to the crater

You made with your toe

While your mind confronted your soul

With your ears proving its’ point,

Driving it home.  She was alone.

The screaming, the screaming

The fault of those people

The weakness, forever

She’s almost dead now

Her screams, her cries, broken

By the blood now entering her lungs.

You just had to stand there

Your heart racing, your mind tracing

What had just happened?

Just a few more short whimpers

Then, “it’s too late now.”

We couldn’t do anything

It happened so fast.

She’s stopped bleeding now, but you’re bleeding for her

Her pain displaces your heart

We saw her life cut short

Just to teach us a lesson,

One that we will never forget,

But will certainly leave a young girl to die

As she’s screaming and screaming again.

We just had to stand there

Our hearts racing, our minds tracing

What had just happened?

Author's Notes/Comments:
