They Worship Me

There are those who worship me,

Not knowing who I am.

But those who see the truth in me

Don't dare to love again.

For all the people's admiration

I wish they'd go away.

They think I'm something pure inside;

Screaming "Damn Me" still today.

There are those who worship me

Their ignorant lies more than I can stand.

When the day is done, the stars settle

I'll still struggle with the man.

They show me my potential,

So high I cannot see.

If they didn't see me there already

Maybe that's where I would be.

There are those who worship me

Who see me at my height.

If they didn't praise me premature

I could have been a little light.
