Humans No More

Gone. One minute Mike was throwing the ball towards me and the next moment he was gone. No sound, no explosion, no smoke. Just Gone. Maybe he hid. But I’ve already searched the house for ours and he is nowhere to be found. Nina isn’t inside either, and the smell of burnt brownie is filling the house. Suddenly every single animal in the neighborhood started barking, howling, meowing and chirping. I decide to go out, it’s my first time in the street and the door is unlocked. I found Bratt, chasing his own tail in the neighbor's front lawn. “ Bratt, where is my human? Have you seen Mike?” I asked. “How can I know where yours are, if I can’t even find mine?” barked Bratt. Every single domestic animal started going to the streets, the birds flew away from other cages to help other birds. Cats started jumping from the windows to catch them and dogs ran after the cats to stop them. Suddenly it hit me, without humans there is no control, and without control there is chaos. Complete chaos. I started to look for my other homies in the neighborhood, I found Gerry the hamster under the bed of his human, Maddie the squirrel eating all the food inside the fridge of her family and John the turtle crying and yelling inside his shell. We were all lost. It felt like hours had passed but only 20 minutes of complete panic had gone and the animals started to reunite outside the colony and we decided to walk together until we found a sign of humans. Bratt hadn’t stopped chasing his tail by this moment. “Tom, what do you think happened to the humans?” said Bratt. Gerry who had been lost for quite a while came out of nowhere and squeaked, “I know where they are guys! I found the humans! I really did!” Everyone in the crowd started freaking out, I barked to calm everyone down so we could hear what Gerry was saying. He could finally talk and said “ I saw a bunch of humans in the Zoo! They are all there!” He barely had time to finish the sentence before they were all rushing to get to the zoo. We lost John a while back though. We ran and ran until we felt like our lungs would burst and we finally got to the zoo. It was unusually quiet there; every single one of the domestic animals entered the door. No human was to be found. Suddenly wild, scary animals started coming out of everywhere, walking slowly caging every single one of us. A lion walked in front of them and said” Thanks Gerry thanks for bringing dinner.” The animals lurched forward and started chasing everyone, eating everyone they could. That was when I realized, Garry ratted us out. Without the humans, we don’t have any protection and if we are the last animals in the world what will happen next?
