The Lazy Rat

Once upon a time, arrived a homeless family of very lazy rats to a farm. Upon arriving, the father of this family of creatures begged the man who lived in the home, if him and his family could stay there.

“Sir, my wife Linda, my son Remy and I, have encountered ourselves endlessly seeking for a home or a place to stay for the night. We are exhausted, could you please be so kind and allow us in for the night?” said Chuck the rat.

“Of course,” said the old man, “you can stay here for as long as you need, my wife and I will be beyond pleased to have you here. Just please understand that my wife and I are quite short in food, since winter is about to come and we gathered just enough for us both, so we would really appreciate if you gathered your own food”.

A few days passed and the rats found themselves to be feeling quite warm and cozy in between the walls of the farm house, but soon they began feeling hungry.

“Chuck, we really need to begin gathering food, winter is about to start” said Linda.

“Don’t fret Hunny, we will find a way to get around this, we always do”

Chuck, instead of beginning to gather supplies, as he was supposed to, decided to sneak into the pantry and steal some food, while he found an alternative other than stealing to provide to is family. Previous to this, Chuck had been known for being a very lazy worker, to not being able to keep a job, and for stealing from his work places, he found it extremely simple just to go ahead and take what’s not his.

After several days the old man realized that some food was missing, he began thinking that there might be a thief who has been stealing their supplied, so he started patrolling the area late at night to prove that someone was taking their food. Nights passed on, and the old man couldn't find a thief, but food was still disappearing.

Against his thoughts, the old man reached Remy and asked, “Hey kid, do you know where your father collects your food?”

“I don’t know,” answered Remy “I’ve never asked him, but he never goes outside for it.”

“He does not?”

“No. My father always brings delicious food in a short time so I would assume he does not go too far ”

“Do you know where is he now?”

“He is bringing food for mom and me.”

“Oh! Great I will wait for him here.”

“Sure.” Said Remy to close the conversation.

Minutes later Chuck came back with a handful of food for the rat family, but he came upon the old man, who confronted him, “Hello Chuck, where have you been?”, asked the old man.

“Oh… hello…” said Chuck in a nervous tone, “I was out for food.” he added.

“Out? From where are you bringing this goodies?”

“Umm… yes, out, from the fields.”

“There are no crops now on the fields, Chuck. Don’t try to make a fool me. You have been taking my food, which I told you not to take. You have abused the trust I gave you. You have to leave, I mean it”

“But sir- “

        “But nothing. Leave.”

Moral: Do not take advantage of people, and most importantly, appreciate what others do for you. Work to fulfil your necessities instead of taking what is not yours to overcome those obstacles. Think before you act, you may damage others without realizing.
