I Sleep But To Dream

Eyes Open

artificial light

lethargy spread out upon sheets

eyes roll around the room

quiet bookcase

walls; white

white without feeling

music of no purpose

plays on down the hall

for no one

television plays

nonchalantly

rain raps the window outside

Eyes Close

i see a smile immoveable

time has no place

as i brush hair from her face

eyes are innocent

alluring, hopeful

wanting to be happy

elbows rest outward on my shoulders

as the arms enwrap my neck

and somehow in my slumber

i have found a place

where wishes don't exist

because they've already been fulfilled
