A Wise Man Has Conveyed To Me

A rather wise man has conveyed to me

his words---in elegant delivery

(and unobtrusive brevity)---

the nature of friendship's verity;

and that its real condition

does not stoop to perfidy,

or pride's preening mockery,

and it prefers addition's

and multplication's largesse

to subtraction's or division's

reduction of more to less.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by a poet I have not always respected; but have pledged, on my sixty-fifth birthday, today, to respect going forward.  As human beings, Americans, Poets, and members of PostPoems, we have more in common than differences in opinion, artistry, and whether the key signature should be called C sharp or D flat, or how to eat anchovies.
