Footnote: Waist Deep In This Affliction

So many other

shoes have had to drop that I

could start an outlet

store---each item, "high end" and

costly . . . so very costly.

Author's Notes/Comments:

During the initial phase of this medical affliction, 2020-2022, I was burdened not only with the disruption of the physical condition but with an endless torrent of paperwork sent to me by my corporate employer, its medical and disability insurer, and the law firm they retained to file my Social Security claim.  I was amazed by the overt demonstration of compassionate concern that dissipated as soon as the next set of paperwork was filled out; as well as the redundant paperwork and having to retell the whole history again and again and again.  The Federal Government, and its Social Security Administration, was far easier to navigate than the other three institutions.  During my six years employment with the final corporation for whom I worked, my peers and I were innundated with "team-building" slogans, processes, meetings---all directed at building and strenghtening the cohesion between us.  Yet, from the time I entered the hospital until I was formally terminated for involuntary job abandonment, I did not receive one card, one phone call, or one visit; and the first communication was a letter warning me of termination for job abandonment.  And this was from a company that demanded of all of its customer service employees a high level of empathy and respect for customers' "feelings."

I deicded to use the phrase "Waist Deep" in the title because the internal spinal injury that began this affliction damaged the nerves in my lower spine causing my body to malfunction, interiorly and exteriorly, from the waist downward.
