Etienne, my friend, whom I call Swedening,

I think of you in my life's evening.

Stupid, I missed the opportunity

to raise our friendship to its next degree---

to find (more perfect there) Love's quality.

But, rather, steeped in craven perfidy,

I failed to show the least of bravery

when we were at the University

(time fleeting, there, the years were only three).

I, earthbound, offer this apology

with ny repentence and sincerity

to you who live now in the heavenly

realm, Jesus's Kingdom, His eternity,

where I will meet you---soon and eagerly.
