+ 1ST POEMS: Written Upon Receipt Of A Letter

The letter just arrived from Italy,

and tells us that our brother, Timothy,

was blessed by God and set at liberty;

Yes, God's will, and not just some random fluke:

and whenever he likes, he may leave Rome;

yes, of late, Ephesus has been his home.

The letter said we should give earnest heed

to those assurances that we have heard---

declared to us by Christ, God's Holy Word,

Who ministers to us in every need.

Wherever we are---any time or place---

we may boldly approach His throne of Grace

for help in trouble.  So wrote Brother Luke---

using his customary eloquence

to share his spiritual experience.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Other Christians have suggested that the Evangelist Saint Luke wrote the Epistle to the Hebrews; the assertion is certainly not original with me, although I believe it is the correct explanation of that Epistle's authorship and highly effective and polished style.
