Ars Poetica, 1

1

A poem should not be dormant

like fleshless bones bestilled in ancient graves:

a poem should be like starlight

launched from all the spheroid's points,

and moving without obstruction in radiant waves.

2

A poem should glide; it must not slog

like the heart-seeps of a poseur's blog,

or the slime sloughed out of a shadowed bog.
