ABANDONMENT

The heart gets torn asunder,

When a family member is lost,

Especially when they leave by choice,

Their absence turns the heart to frost.

Abandonment is worse than death,

Because it means they no longer care,

Turning their back on those that need them,

Behind them becomes a world of despair.

The silence that replaces them,

Is deafening in its totality,

Their voice and touch long gone,

Forcing you to live a new reality.

The aching hole they left behind,

Gets filled with bitterness and tears,

Causing relentless torment and pain,

That gets worse throughout the years.

Is there any end to the suffering,

Any balm for a shattered soul,

Can a heart once torn asunder,

Be healed and become once again whole.
