I should have known things would end this way

With all the problems we've had before.

Those things have gone beyond repair

And we should try no more.



I should have known you'd deny my attempts

To contact you in neutrality.

Iíve deluded myself into thinking

There'd remain any sentimentality.



I should have known you lacked the maturity

To ever deal with me again.

I've seen the way you've left others,

Unable to be friends.



I should have known you'd pull away

In your need to cut all ties.

That you'd leave again without a backward glance

And never tell me why.



I should have known better than to expect

Your happiness for me

And now /I'm/ forced to cut all ties

From what could never truly be.
