Specter of Change

Therein the dilemma lies: a figure stricken,
in disguise and posturing, cloying with its charm.
Its words a vice upon heartstrings; its precision
a marvel that provokes the crazed to take up arms.
Somehow less, yet better than we, who would strike out
without knowing what lay beneath its shifting skin
or what may leave to float, or leak upon the ground
when we've left it to bleed in a panicking fit.
Take it not as a sign nor a prescient come,
but as guttural sounds and images made by
an opportunity for great changes in some
of the broadest horizons seen by humankind.
If said figure stretches out a lingering hand,
mind not the stirs; it's just the changing of your land.
