Fairytale Love

There was no Charming Prince, and Romeo I am not
No magic spells, glass slippers, or sleeping beauties.
Only a few love songs, some soft spoken words.
Love at first sight…maybe…
but I had to look twice just to be sure.

It is true…and it is keeping me awake at night.
For so long we were looking for a fairytale.
Never did we expect to find…
the love that fairytales read stories about.

Not going to tell you about the flat tire in the rain.
We got to the restaurant late…almost lost our reservation.
Drenched from the rain, I asked if she wanted to dance.
One touch of her hand I felt so moved.
I held her close, whispering the words to the song,
as if I were singing to her.

It is true…and it is keeping me awake at night.
For so long we were looking for a fairytale.
Never did we expect to find…
the love that fairytales read stories about.

When we headed back to her house, I pulled my blazer over.
Then I told her to look out at the sky.
Stars didn't fall, and I was still wishing.
On her front porch step I missed the step.
Tripped and fell into her rosebush.
As she bandaged me up we both just sat there and laughed.
She looked at me and said, “Well it has been an interesting night.”
I expected her to kick me out… but woke up on her couch,
In my arms she looked so comfortable…I couldn't believe.

It is true…and it is keeping me awake at night.
For so long we were looking for a fairytale.
Never did we expect to find…
the love that fairytales read stories about.
