Goodbye My Home

The birds song seems full of sorrow

It echoes what is in my heart.

I look around at the bare walls

feeling empty, feeling true loss.

This is my home.

The sound of tires against pavement,

the echo of a train in the distance,

My mind screams along.

I do not want to leave it all behind.

I do not want to start over -- alone.

As the truck pulls up out front

my heart breaks into pieces

A melody of glass shattering.

Boxes being packed away,

furniture being pulled apart,

shrouded memories of my life.

I take one last look around me.

Ghosts of the past spin around me,

forever haunting my thoughts.

One last click of a familiar lock,

the jingle of keys peal in the silence.

Frozen in time, a perfect picture,

Slowly it fades away.

The car I drive into the future,

moves slowly then ever faster

as I follow my dad's truck.

A piece of me dies this day

as everything I have ever known

is left behind.
