If I tell you I don't love you,
You hold me closer to you,
imprisoning my true desires.
If I tell you I hate you,
You plead to keep me close,
smothering my every need.
All you're doing is
Trapping me with guilt,
like a bird in a gilded cage.
All you're doing is
Keeping me from happiness,
like the thorn hides the rose.
I do not have the strength
to keep you from my arms.
I do not have the strength
to just walk away.
My heart calls out
for someone other than you,
I push that away
afraid to hurt you.
I want to be free,
a butterfly soaring.
If I tell you I love you,
will it make you hate me?
If I tell you I need you,
will you walk away?
A feather floating on the wind,
reminds me of the freedom
I no longer have.
My heart is cold, hidden,
abused and alone,
longing for a truth
that cannot exist.
My heart is empty,
the one I long for out of reach.
I want to make things right.
