for two years i saw you,

passed you ever day in the halls,

i never said hello,

neither did you,

did you even know i existed?



for two years i saw you,

voted most popular,

become a football star,

i wasn't that special,

did you even know i existed?



one day in class,

you were sat across from me,

the one conversation i had with you,

never again did we exchange a word.



when we got our yearbooks,

i was too nervous to ask you for a signature,

i promised myself the next year that i would,

i chickened out then too.



it took you a year to say hello,

it took you a year to notice me,

now that i think of it,

i don't envy you anymore.



you were too wrapped up in yourself to notice me,

one of the ones who admired you from afar,

too you i was another from the crowd,

that's all i was.

that's all i'll ever be to you.

and that's all you'll ever be to me.
