My grandmother's notebook.

When I was young, I would notice that my grandmother would do two things: she wuld smoke and she would write stuff down in a notebook. We, the grandchildren, asked grandma what she would write down on her notebook but she would always say that no one gets to know. That would go on for many years. She would always tell me that no one gets to see the content of the notebook, no one gets to see if it is meaningless or important information she keeps hidden. It became a bit of an inside joke between her and her grandchildren, as every time one of us would visit her, we would always ask, even beg, her to let us see inside the notebook, but the answer was always the same. I am not sure for how long this went, or when this notebook thing started, but it’s a great memory surrounded in mystery that I have about my grandmother. I think this notebook thing started since I have memory, as the oldest cousin is 31 years old and he does remember the notebook from his childhood. Funny thing is, grandma was most likely messing with us as my oldest cousin mentioned that throughout the years, the notebook never changed. It was the same notebook, same brand, same color, same number of pages, same pen and pencil, same everything. It seemed to be a tradition that every time there would be a family reunion or a grandson would visit her, she would pull out the notebook at random points during the day and write gibberish or doodles just to peak our curiosity. The cousins have talked it through and we came to the potential conclusion that she would most likely do this notebook thing just to mess with us. She passed away in 2009. To this day, the content of that notebook is still a mystery to me and to the rest of the cousins. For all we know, the notebook had everything on it, or it had nothing on it. We do not know what came to be of the notebook, as we haven’t been to grandma’s place in many years, but I think I want the content of that notebook to remain a mystery, as I think it would lose the fondness of the notebook.
