When Someone You Love Falls

Love cannot protect someone

from every storm.

You cannot catch every tear

before it falls,

prevent every heartbreak,

or stand between them

and every disappointment.

That is not love.

Love is creating a place

where someone can be entirely themselves,

where they can stumble,

make mistakes, change their mind,

even disagree with you,

and never fear

that your love will disappear.

You do not have to rescue them.

Sometimes the greatest tenderness

is simply staying near.

A hand without judgement.

A heart without conditions.

A presence that quietly says,

You are still loved here.

Because loving someone

is not making certain

they never fall.

It is making certain

that when they do,

they never have to wonder

whether they must rise

alone.
