If I Should

If I should die ere long, my friend

Remember me thus, lovingly:

A friend to those in need of one,

Ever ready to encourage,

A ready laugh upon my lips,

A host of words, warmed by my heart

To envelop and to enfold,

All the love that I could give,

Earth Mother to have and to hold.

I made good friends,

I loved again,

I learned how to forgive myself too.

I've earned my rest from hurt and pain.

Do not sorrow. No, do not grieve.

Pray for me with love.

And then

Let me leave.
