When Beauty Chooses Beast

When oft pensive poets sit
Perceiving poesy for what it is
Wrestling with the muse to wit;
He gives her more than what is his.
From Polymania and daughters Zeus
And other siblings of the gods,
He wordsmiths antonyms with a truce
And with dueling synonyms he plods.
For what is greater than passionate screed,
When garnered from the heavenly divine;
To give to the beloved words in need
Of better crafting of letters so fine.
From the light within his mortal eyes, he
Scrys the light within her immortal soul
And with multifarious words he vies,
To woo her upon nature’s grassy knoll.
For every Roxanne there is a Bergerac
Who is the very muse of love she seeks;
But for his nose he would be on a fast track
To win her over in but few summery weeks.
However, when star-crossed and chosen least
Among all the devoted suitors seen;
It is more than chance beauty chooses beast,
When his words of love are felt most keen.
