At my age, I have learned, at last, to realize
the meaning of that period, at the end of nineteen seventy-six:
such blessings and joys in a most exquisite mix,
not subject to my flaws or temptation's tricks.
That time was both metaphor and simile for the final stage of life---
without the conniptions of selfishiness or strife,
a summing up (before the approaching edge of nineteen seventy-seven)
of those treasures I should commit to Christ in Heaven.
