Lord, help me to abandon---through Great Lent,

this year---the lazy mediocrity

of my personal spirituality

in the light of Ancient Christianity,

the Orthodox Faith, against which our ruined world

slams with its taloned temptations unfurled.

Prayer rules daily, and the Divine Liturgy,

have been given to Christians (even some bent

like me) to guide our understanding of

You, Christ our God and Savior, Who is Love,

the Bright and Morning Star, as I love to read

in the Words of Your Beloved, Your Apostle John

(here I think of David and Jonathan):

and in Your Light, I can proceed,

raised to the Fellowship of the Mystery,

and therein I have become Januaried.
