+ 1ST OF MY POEMS CONSTELLATED ORTHODOX; To My Elder Brother In The Orthodox Faith, Arvo Part

I, too, pray poorly and little;

my prayer as impoverished as the spittle

expelled to a slight breeze; or as effervescent

as newly poured Club Soda's flitting fizz.

But Christ accepts it and assures me---I am His;

despite the overgrowth of this world's weeds

(around my footsteps tangled, tightening, and efflorescent).

I thank Christ for my burden of beggarly needs;

for, therein, I have met and am coming to know Him

ever more deeply in my remaining lifespan---no mere whim.
