When you designed blue jeans, did you imagine
how many gorgeous, long-haired young men---shirtless,
shoeless (their feet bare or sock-sheathed) have worn the
garment, and have vivified it with beauty.
boldly or shyly?
And how---despite prejudiced expectation---
one of our high school's most prominent athletes
(four years, varsity) took my bookworm friend, his
boyfriend, to Prom, clad in tuxedo jacket,
jeans, and barefoot; but
before they went to the dance floor, he put on
semi-sheer socks (no shoes, just the socks) and
all of us males, who loved or felt crushes toward
other males, felt encouraged by this athlete who
wore your jeans to Prom . . . .
