Be Still

Folder:
slightly old poems

You’re only seventeen

You had so many dreams in your life

You have low self esteem

You wanted to be the perfect wife

I know about your pain

I see it in your eyes

I think about the rain

Pouring down his lies

I think about the day

That he tore you apart

I remember the way

That he broke your heart

He said, “babe, I love you”

And “I’ll never let you go”

Now he found someone new

How could he be so low

Cry all your tears, girl

Let your weakness show

Scream all you can, girl

Let the world know

But now try to be strong

The baby’s on the way

I know it must feel wrong

To grow up in a day

The day he broke your heart

He made another little one inside of you

You feel the feet kick

And you know what to do

You want to finish high school

And feel carefree again

Now you feel like such a fool

For trusting any men

Now you open your Bible slowly

Feeling like a fraud

The words pop out at you suddenly

“Be still and know that I am God”

(wrote this after a Lakewood youth about that verse)
