Bruised Strength

Folder:
slightly old poems

I’ve seen you the past few days

You have bruises everywhere

You’re hurt in so many ways

How do I show how much I care

I guess your daddy came back

He brought the alcohol too

Now you sleep in the shack

So he can’t get to you

Your mama doesn’t care at all

She has “better” things to do

You hear her laugh when you fall

She wants to get rid of you

You should have left last year

But you can’t leave your little brothers there

If daddy ever hit them

You should kill him without a care

I’m thankful for your daddy’s abuse

And your mama’s neglecting

Without these terrible things

you wouldn’t be so strong and caring

You work two jobs after school

To buy your girlfriend a ring

You give yourself this rule

“Turn out like daddy or have everything”

Remember, never forget to pray

And you can always count on me

Always be thankful everyday

And be the best man you can be

(based on a true story)
