Riptide

Had to show off, didn’t he?

Farther and farther out he went

Into that majestic sea.

Now his love is left to lament.

Years have passed

With many fine suitors coming to court his loss.

They amassed,

But no worthy successor did she come across.

They hadn’t his kiss, his passion, his agile grace.

In time she would see them in terms of him,

An approach she was too merciful to embrace.

If only he hadn’t gone for that swim…

It’s easy to chase your pride

Until you find your riptide.
