Alone Together

All the planning that went into this,

Painstakingly plotting our pleasure,

Yet here we are alone together.

The locals were so charming,

The waters aglow of sapphire,

Yet this void is most alarming -

Why is there frost instead of fire?

All the planning that went into this,

Painstakingly plotting our pleasure,

Yet here we are alone together.

A late stroll in silence toward the inlet

With these outstretched arms and tentative hands.

A sullen pair surveying the sunset

Not one second more than nature demands.

All the planning that went into this,

Painstakingly plotting our pleasure,

Yet here we are alone together.

After midnight and no word is uttered

As tropical breezes cradle our skin.

The truth is now conclusively shuttered,

In ready environs yet held within.

All the planning that went into this,

Painstakingly plotting our pleasure,

Yet here we are alone together.
