Albee in Belize

Off the water bounces the light

Straight into his earnest eyes.

Quite still, riveted by the sight,

How could he ever realize

The truth inside her heart –

Soiled, no emotion,

Hardened, eager to part

At love’s slightest notion.

Now he cherishes their pictures together –

At the Great Blue Hole, the Ambergris Caye –

But summer nights do turn to stormy weather,

And henceforth he will cast them to the sea.

Such a man, full of hope, down on his knees

May just as well be Albee in Belize.
