One of Three

Folder:
Maple Avenue

“A bit crowded,” the People’s Princess said,
And I happen to agree.
I’d rather spend my nights alone in bed
Than ever be one of three.

How can love be evenly divided?
Does there exist an equation?
How soon before things become one-sided
Or subject to grand evasion?

It’s a free world, but I predict heartbreak
While wishing others well.
Somehow three figures on a wedding cake
Makes me think time will tell.

I believe in symmetry and balance,
Equal parts passion
With no act of charity.
This is not among my so-called talents,
Not in my fashion -
I desire true parity.

Of course it should be allowed -
If it brings them joy then let it be -
But in my eyes three’s a crowd
And I could never be one of three.
