I Can't Take You With Me

It's been so long since we saw the sunshine,

Your dark cloud covering our once spacious sky.

It ensures you'll never truly be mine

Since it's more familiar than you and I.

Fits of misery can come from beauty

As can battles that will never be won.

Shielding you is no longer my duty

Since my valiant efforts have been outdone.

You'll be caught out in the rain as before,

Comforted in your way by the anguish.

Fleet of foot, ever headed for the door,

You're fated in the downpour to languish.

At last I've learned I can't take you with me,

Only call on you occasionally.
