I Would Have Said

I would have said love had smiled upon me,

Would have called myself a winner in its crazy game.

Isn’t it curious, what I couldn’t see?

With the warmth of your touch now I’ll never be the same.

I used to relish the burden of making them smile -

Success at the challenge was my crowning glory.

Now I rise with the sun and yours grateful all the while

To be wrapped in the arms of a sweeter story.

There’s little the two of us know for sure -

Our greatest gift is that we know it -

But I trust there’s nothing we can’t endure

If we have love and vow to show it.

Today I’ll just try not to look too far ahead,

Savor the moment against what I would have said.
